Modeling my way
thru the Commercials
by Cyndi Fall Welch
The Varsity Show Circa 1967
I was selected to be on the first ‘Teen Fashion Board’ for the Anchorage J.C. Penney store in 1967.
We were taught how to apply make up and of course model clothes from the Teen department at Penny’s.
We were asked to model new styles during the commercials on the Varsity Show. And then we were allowed to dance on the show which was fantastic and so much fun!
A memory I will always have.
A Note from Mike at Anchorage Memories
Thank you for sharing your fun Varsity Show memory.
J.C. Penny and our other Varsity Show sponsors were so important to our show, in part because our sponsors provided scholarships to the high school students who worked on the Varsity Show.
And of course for you, J.C. Penny gave you an opportunity to be a part of the "Teen Fashion Board", which must have been an exciting honor.
All that, plus you were taught how to use make up and to model. Fun stuff for a high school teen.
And the reward of dancing on the Varsity Show put you in front of the Anchorage teen audience.
Fun days in Anchorage for sure, and fun memories.
